These Boneyard Brownies inspired by Wilton are the perfect go-to Halloween treat!!
I really enjoy Halloween. I love all the decorations, the parties and picking out costumes. I bring out from storage my growing collection of wicked witches to decorate the house and think about fun, spooky treats to make.
Halloween, for us, consists of multiple events for several weeks leading up to the actual treat-or-treating in our neighborhood on October 31st. We attend “Trunk or Treat” at our church and help out with the Halloween Carnival at the boys’ school. Charlie was able to go with his class to a pumpkin patch where he zip-lined, picked pumpkins, and got lost in a cornfield maze. Both boys had Halloween parties at school and I even had one at work.

This year my right brain just didn’t kick in, so I made a trip to Michaels and looked around the baking isles. My go-to for baking creativity (when my creativity has died) is Wilton. I found a Skeleton Bones Candy Mold and on it is a picture of Boneyard Brownies. How perfect for a Halloween-themed treat that would go over big at the Halloween Carnival cake-walk! I grabbed a bag of creepy-green candy melts, a box of brownie mix, some pre-made chocolate frosting, a package of Oreos and headed home.
I went ahead and made the skeleton bones candies the night before to save some time. This was my first time using a candy mold and they are really pretty slick..once I figured out that I really did need to tap the filled molds a bit to release the air bubbles (yep, thought that step wasn’t necessary…who knows…)
The next day, I finished the Boneyard Brownies. An 8×8 pan yielded 6 rectangular brownies big enough for the candy skeletons. I cut out the brownies, frosted them with chocolate frosting, placed the bones “just so” (ha!) and sprinkled around crushed-up Oreos (frosting removed) to resemble “dirt”. How cute!! Would you not pick out these fun Boneyard Brownies for your prize at the Halloween Carnival cake-walk?
Hope you all have a safe and super-fun Halloween!!
